Conservation without Borders: Designing the Bigodi Grey Parrot Museum

In Summer 2025, I was awarded Brown’s Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award to develop the Bigodi Grey Parrot Museum in collaboration with natural historian Nancy Jacobs and museum director Nick Byaba. My role involved assisting with poster design, considering poster layout and museum space arrangement, and managing local community outreach to involve other artists and contributors. The museum is located in Bigodi, Uganda, a site known for its incredible natural ecosystems and rich cultural history.

From April to July, our team worked to establish the Bigodi Grey Parrot Museum as a resource for both local school children and international tourists to learn about grey parrot conservation. During this project, I was able to be completely immersed in the ecosystems of Kibale National forest while utilizing my knowledge of curation and design to assist with museum development.

My time in Uganda cemented my interest in community-based conservation and working at the intersection of ecological conservation, textile design, and environmental education.
